Today's Maker: Milly Barker-DeStefano - Helping makers 10x their content

WHY SHE'S FEATURED:

  • On a mission to build profitable side projects (we love to see it)

  • Building ahavo in public, which helps makers 10x their content, and it looks AWESOME!

  • Beats idea overload by letting her dogs choose her next project 😂

  • Pursues her maker journey while also leading growth at TRADERVERSE

Milly may be relatively earlier on in her "profitable side projects" venture, but she's got the #BuildInPublic thing DOWN. She's constantly sharing her progress on Twitter, writing detailed articles about her thought process on her blog (Mi)lly, Myself, and I, and sharing valuable content tips via ahavo's twitter account. She clearly understands its just as much about marketing as it is building (something I wish I learned way earlier) and you just get the sense that she's onto big things and it's just a matter of time. I'm really excited to follow her journey.

So what habits are empowering Milly on this trajectory? I'm glad you asked.👇

3 Habits that changed Milly's trajectory:

  • 🏃 Embrace sprints - I’ve built websites in less than a day, scheduled out a month’s worth of social media in less than three hours, and done a bunch more things in short periods of time by focusing my energy during sprints. I’m usually thinking about work while I hike or am doing chores, so when the time comes to sit down at my desk, I can power through for a few hours and get way more done than most people do in a whole day.

  • ⚙️ Systems for everything - I go by the principle that if it can be systematized, it should. I’ve always thought very logically and I see my plans play out step by step in my brain before I do them, so it makes sense to apply this instinct to my workflows as well. I use Trello a lot and set up automations for as much as possible.

  • 🙅 Eliminate anything that’s unrelated to important goals - My only two goals are health and wealth, and everything that’s unrelated gets ignored nowadays. I’m getting better at saying ‘no’ to unnecessary meetings, ‘quick’ chats (they’re never quick), and other energy draining activities that don’t contribute to my goals. I try to keep my mornings for health (hiking, dog park, shower + self-care, and a healthful lunch) and my afternoons for wealth (my job, side projects, freelancing, investing). There has to be a really good reason for me to change these things up.

Wow, talk about focus! Milly has taken the time to get clear on what she wants and how she wants to go about it. I believe this clarity is not only what sets Milly apart, but also what sets her up for success.

I recommend following Milly on Twitter @barkerdestefano to keep up with her progress on ahavo and I highly recommend you get on the waitlist for ahavo ASAP because it looks like it's going to be awesome, especially for makers.

That's all, thanks for reading!
